Others flamed out or opted out entirely. But most share some striking points of view. Many of these men, for example, spoke of having to constantly calibrate their public miens: Nearly all had experienced conversations shutting down or being shut out when matters of race were brought up; nearly all felt a profound sense of concern for the generation of black men to come, fearing that if they did nothing personally to develop the talent pipeline, the share of African Americans in business would only dwindle.
